Building Better Customer Insight through Behaviour-Based Targeting

To keep pace with change, retailers around the globe need to get to grips with new shopping behaviours. Today, a growing number of consumers has turned into fickle shoppers ready to jump ship looking for retailers better able to meet their expectations. Who are the consumers? Where, how much and how do they buy?

Are they regular or casual? Big or small money spenders? And how do they respond to buying incentives?

Identifying and classifying shoppers into relevant consumer categories is one of today's most critical challenges of the industry. To better understand shoppers and improve behavioural targeting mechanics, retailers must be able to extract and decipher insightful data through the analysis of past purchases, the history of clicked pages and items, or shopping cart abandonment rates using appropriate segmentation tools.

Improving Personalised Promotions through Better Targeting

To simplify the implementation and computation of target groups, Maxxing classifies them in either of the following categories:

Standard Targets

In standard targets, shopper categories are identified using proven industry methods such as:

Positioning: small, average, top shopper, non-buyer
RFM (Recency Frequency Monetary) scoring
Segmentation
Respondent or non-respondent
Favourite and potential sections

Customisable Targets

In customisable targets, shoppers are classified using other criteria:

Consumer-related information found in the customer data management module: male/female, home store, geography, loyalty card owner, etc.
Transaction-related information: sales per customer, buyers per section, number of items purchased, etc. Over varying periods e.g. day, quarter, year
Support for bounces per sales channel
Promotions delivered vs. used, not used, etc.

All target groups can be re-computed on demand by the built-in scheduler.

Finally, target lists or types can also be cross-linked, merged or excluded.

To ensure a perfect functional coverage, target lists or types can be exported to third-party applications or used in the Customer Management or Tailored Promotions modules
